MOTD: The Intar-Web Is An Awesome Thing

Our MOTD is a typical example of the pure awesomeness of the internet. Here’s a guy, just a regular guy, with obvious talent, who’s penned a tune, worked out some funky chords and wants to share his creation with the world. And here it is…  Catchy tune too

Now this simple "home video" has been watched and listened to over 300,000 times.  When else in the whole of human history has the individual, with a message to share had THIS kind of access to the rest of the civilisation ?   The answer is - never before

What have YOU done lately to talk with the rest of planet Earth…

MOTD: Your Sunday Double Treat

It may be April 1st but there’s no fooling when I say this one is worth the time for two reasons… #1 Your Sunday MOTD is from Aussie band POWDERFINGER with the soulful lyrics and vocals of frontman BERNARD FANNING and his song  THESE DAYS, originally written for the soundtrack of the 1999 movie TWO HANDS. A studio version of the track was never released on a Powderfinger album.  Appearing instead only on the official Two Hands sound-track album.  Was later featured on the bands 2004 live album release THESE DAYS: Live In Concert.

Reason #2 (as if you needed another reason) is that the video behind this particular incarnation of the song is provided by the boys at JONES AIR - AERIAL AGRICULTURAL MAINTENANCE SERVICES located 500km west of Brisbane in outback Queensland, Australia. In other words, they do CROP DUSTING in the DARLING DOWNS. And quite well by the looks of this.

Worth noting just how CLOSE they get to powerlines, trees, fences and other things that will quickly ruin your day at the office, if that office happens to be the cockpit of an AT-802 AIRTRACTOR  with a cruising speed of 314km/h .

MOTD: Dream on White Boy…

Saturday’s MOTD takes us back to the glory days for Aussie pop/rock band INXS. In this live 1984 performance filmed in NARARA, NSW of ORIGINAL SIN from the album THE SWING, we get to see the late MICHAEL HUTCHENCE’S bad-80’s-hair in all it’s boofy glory.

I only ever saw them live once myself with Mikey at the helm, and I only went to that concert to see the support band, Urge Overkill, but I have to say… INXS really tore it up and the tight on-stage musicianship of the Farris Brothers led group is world class.

MOTD: Living Rooms… Bedrooms… Dinettes..

It still FRIDAY FUNDAY at WiggumDaily and here’s one of my favourite things on the internet from recent times.  Our MOTD is actually the "rap" from a low budget TV commercial for one of those discount furniture warehouse complex dealy’s.  This is GREAT and worth watching several times.  The song really gets stuck in your head, but it’s not a bad thing. Once you get that beat pattern into your brain, you’ll start talking and thinking things using the same style.
It’s a beautiful thing.    And I urge you to also learn the Mini-Mall Dance.

The ad is actually for FLEA MARKET - MONTGOMERY in Alabama, USA.   Originally the spot rose to fame being billed as "Worst Commercial Ever" which I think is hugely unfair.  There are PLENTY of ad’s out there, FAR more terrible that this.  The mini-mall ad stars the large and ample frame of the owner SAMMY STEPHENS who also wrote the words, and music for the flea-market rap.  At least he’s DOING stuff and putting himself out there to support his business… and have some fun at the same time.

Keep an eye out for "Harry High Pants" and the "Bug Eyed Monster" who also "appear" during the commercial.  I’m never growing tired of this.

Sing it with me…

"It’s just like… it’s just like… a… mini… MALL"

MOTD: Pick It and Pluck It Just Like Eric

Todays MOTD is an instructional how-to video showing the chords and technique to
play ERIC CLAPTON’S grammy award winning song TEARS IN HEAVEN.
Interesting to watch, even if you’re not a guitar player.
And a really nice piece for the acoustic guitar too.

MOTD: Can We Still Be Friends

A special double-dose MOTD to make up for yesterday’s decidedly talent-free zone.

MOTD #01 Our first item is a 100% paradigm shift from the IAN BENARDO show. Unlike Ian, DAVID CHOI has REAL talent and an understated no-nonsense style to show it off. Quite the voice for “some kid in a bedroom” in front of a web-cam. Probably takes two listens to truly appreciate just how good he is.

.

MOTD #02 It’s 1980. The 70’s are fading away fast. Flared pants, disco dancing and uber-wide collars are giving way to tight black jeans, scary-hair, and the synthesiser. Through it all, an up-and-coming pub band from Adelaide, South Australia are still rocking hard across this wide brown land. The song writing, arranging, and producing skills of DON WALKER, the soulful blistering guitar work of IAN MOSS and the dynamic vocals and front-man antics of Scottish migrant JIMMY BARNES were the cornerstones and what made COLD CHISEL legends and icons on the Australian music landscape.

At the peak of their game, this is a live performance of STAR HOTEL, written both as a protest against the Fraser Government and to commemorate the riots at Newcastle’s famous Star Hotel. Enjoy… :)

MOTD: Why Isn’t Anybody Caaaawlin’

Straight from the “Only-In-New-York” files, today’s MOTD rates a solid 9.6 on the CRINGE-O-METER. And only just qualifies as music. Now initially you’ll probably think this is just a setup, a stooge placed by the shows producers for entertainment purposes. But the more you watch it you realise that this guy is “for real” and IAN BENARDO truly believes that IAN BENARDO has true talent. SCARY STUFF. Here’s a link for you Ian…

My favourite part is when RANDY is giving his feedback :)

(I’ll make it up to you tomorrow I promise :) )

MOTD: Finger Twister On The Piano…

This video is an instructional video of how to play CLOCKS by COLDPAY on the piano.   Starts out simple enough until about 2 minutes in where he says "Now just play the right hand BACKWARDS" and off it goes on from there.  Nice song though and would be sweet to be able to sit down at the ivories and reel that out at parties etc…  :)

MOTD: Stevie Wonder Musical Genius

Today’s Music Of The Day proves just what a undisputed musical GENIUS this man is. Not many “normal” drummers could play a solo like this, yet Little Stevie Wonder manages to do it, kicking butt and taking numbers along the way :)
